Jolla annonce la création d'un nouvel écosystème

Jolla, la petite entreprise forte de 50 employés et qui en prévoit le double d'ici la fin de l'année, mise très fort sur la marché Chinois.

En effet, d'après le communiqué de presse du 2 Octobre 2012 (en fin d'article), le PDG de Jolla annonce la création d'un écosystème en formant une alliance à Hong Kong en collaboration avec les principaux acteurs de l'industrie mobile. Le nouveau système d'exploitation mobile, basé sur MeeGo, ayant pour nom de code "sailfish" sera prêt à être vendu aux autres fabricants, aux maisons de conceptions et aux sociétés de services d'ici le printemps 2013. Sailfish s'appuie sur les projets open source Mer et Qt. Le système d'exploitation sera ainsi ouvert à la contribution pour la communauté.


Les partenaires de l'alliance vont investir environ 200 millions d'euros pour assurer le succès et l'expansion rapide du nouvel écosystème. Le financement se fera peu à peu, aussi bien par les fabricants de puces, de terminaux mais aussi les opérateurs et les revendeurs.

Selon Jussi Hurmola, le PDG de Jolla, le marché chinois est très important car il comporte d'énormes ressources et compétences. Jolla pourrait apporter un changement majeur dans le monde de la téléphonie mobile si le projet avance comme prévu.

Le projet sera hébergé par Cyberport à Hong Kong, l'un des meilleurs acteur sur le marché mondial. Tout est déjà prévu pour la globalité de l'écosystème et du service de cloud computing.

Comme annoncé dans un précédent article, le système d'exploitation sera facilement évolutif et ainsi disponible sur plusieurs plateformes comme les smartphones, TV connectées, les terminaux intégrés aux véhicules.

Pour finir, l'entreprise basée en Finlande va employer directement du personnel sur le marché chinois pour créer un centre de recherche et développement à Hong Kong. Jolla croit fermement à son projet, ses technologies et ses idées, pour s'imposer comme un concurrent sérieux aux systèmes déjà existants.

PRESS RELEASE – Jolla Ltd. establishes a mobile ecosystem alliance based on MeeGo OS
Jolla Ltd., a new smartphone technology company, is setting up a new ecosystem by forming an alliance in Hong Kong together with the leading players in the industry. The new fully productised mobile operating system, based on MeeGo and codenamed “Sailfish”, will be ready for licensing by other device manufacturers, design houses and service companies in spring 2013. Sailfish builds on and contributes to existing open source projects such as the Qt Project and Mer Core, and due to those roots the new OS will be open to community involvement and participation.
The alliance partners will be investing an estimated 200 million euros to ensure the success and rapid expansion of the new ecosystem. The 200M€ ecosystem financing will come in gradually from Jolla and as members join the alliance, which will include chipset vendors, OEM and ODM manufacturers, operators and retailers.

The Sailfish alliance data centre will be hosted in Cyberport Hong Kong, one of the best connected sites in the world, with Internet backbones going to China, Europe and the US. The data centre is being established to host Sailfish’s infrastructure, data, productisation facilities and collaboration services. In addition, some of the upcoming ecosystem’s cloud services will be provided from there. The OS and UX are highly scalable and will support smartphones, tablets, televisions, automotive and other device classes.

The MeeGo based community is extending in Asia and China.
